I'd like to thank all of the departments that participated this season that have made 2007 another amazing year for the program. It's hard to believe this series has been around for 20 seasons and even more incredible that it's still fresh and kinetic and fun to produce! We had the opportunity to work with the men and women of the Sacramento Police Department and Kansas City, Missouri Police Department again after 10 years away. Another familiar department that hasn't made an appearance for awhile is the Pomona Police Department -- and boy, are they back! We were also fortunate to add a few new faces to the 150+ agencies we've worked with over the years including the Rialto Police Department and Leon County Sheriff's Office. This season we made it to 20 different cities across the country and visited a state that has never been on before -- Michigan!
Only a handful of the 36 episodes that we are delivering to FOX have been aired, and those that have aired have been memorable to say the least. In the next few months, more new episodes are on the way and I guarantee they are going to knock your socks off. Among the shows that have aired or will air this season, we've taped a patrol vehicle going up in flames in Spokane, a officer shot with a Tek-9 in Kansas City, Missouri; a pursuit in Pomona with an ending so extraordinary it's sure to go down as one the shows most compelling calls ever.
IN MEMORIAM
This season we have seen the untimely passing of an officer and a Police K-9 that we were privileged enough to work with in '07.
Officer Sergio Carrera of the Rialto Police Department was shot while serving a narcotics related warrant on October 18th. A 4 year veteran of Rialto PD, Sergio was a young father and is survived by his wife and two children. He will make several post-humous appearances on the program this season and we are honored that we were afforded the opportunity to get to know Sergio and call him a friend. A memorial fund has been set up in his name. You can learn more by visiting this link.
In Sacramento, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Leo, a Sacramento Police K-9 who has been on the job for 5 years and is responsible for the apprehension of hundreds of violent felons during his career. Sgt. Dennis Joy and Leo were working their last scheduled shift together on November 16th before Leo's retirement when Leo began behaving strangely. Sgt. Joy took Leo to a vet where he was diagnosed with cancer. Tumors had burst in his spleen and invaded his blood stream. While Leo could have survived for a few months, he would have been in constant pain. With every member of the K9 Unit present, Leo was euthanized at 1:00am on November 17th. The Sacramento Police Canine Association, a non-profit organization which provides for the care of retired Sacramento Police K-9's, handled the funeral service and burial costs for Leo. I'd also like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. While most of our team is resting up, everyone here at headquarters are hard at work on the second season of JAIL for MyNetwork TV.
Stay Safe,
Bryan
